I said this was coming.  Really, I did.  When the newspapers started going under I suggested that Hussain Obama the First and the Second should bail out the newspapers.  Maybe I should have kept my mouth shut.

The president said he is “happy to look at” bills before Congress that would give struggling news organizations tax breaks if they were to restructure as nonprofit businesses.

And this part is key – if they become non-profit businesses.  Not just because liberals hate capitalism, that’s a big part of it, but more importantly as non-profits the newspapers will be more likely to need additional federal money in the future.  Obama the 1 & 2 will effectively put the newspapers under the control of the government.

How this will be different from the present I really can’t say . . .

Obama said that good journalism is “critical to the health of our democracy,” but expressed concern toward growing tends in reporting — especially on political blogs, from which a groundswell of support for his campaign emerged during the presidential election.

Journalism is not critical to the health of our democracy (by the way, democracy is not a living organism and can not have health, but how would a journalist or politician know that?), intelligence is the important attribute for a democracy.  We don’t seem to have much of that, hence the problem we have of electing people like W. and Hussein.

“I am concerned that if the direction of the news is all blogosphere, all opinions, with no serious fact-checking, no serious attempts to put stories in context, that what you will end up getting is people shouting at each other across the void but not a lot of mutual understanding,” he said.

Oh, you mean like the media, newspaper and television, do now?  No fact-checking?  No context?  Pushing bad news to get ratings and sell advertising?
