GRUB version 1 has been improved to GRUB version 2. How improved you ask? I’ll tell you.
Changing the default boot time in GRUB 1:
nano /boot/grub/grub.conf
arrow down to timeout=30
change 30 to 60
ctrl+x
y
enter
reboot and done
That was not good enough according to the virgins who write GRUB. Thus they improved the process.
Changing the default boot time in GRUB 2:
edit /etc/default/grub
run grub-updater
reboot
discover that the option for booting Winblows is gone
search internet for 20 minutes
find out this is a bug which is over a year old and hasn’t been fixed yet
search internet for another 20 minutes looking for solution
manually mount the windows partition
run os-probe
run grub-updater
reboot and now it’s working.

The beauty of gentoo is you don’t have to put up with most bullshit. Still using old grub, will keep using old grub as long as possible. Still no systemd aka “nsa rootkit” aka “winblows for linux” aka “braindamaged garbage” aka “statism for your computer”. Ruby and pulseaudio are keyworded. So nice.
I too will be using GRUB1 for as long as possible. No Systemd for me either.
