The state of Colorado did not legalize marijuana so you could get high.  The state legalized it so the state can regulate it and collect taxes. The states which are legalizing gay marriage are not legalizing gay marriage so you can get married.  They are legalizing so taxes can be collected on the money you spend on marriage and so divorce lawyers can get more clients.
