Stating The Obvious 0394 – Book Discussion – The Internet Is Not The Answer Episode I: A Society Full Of Stupid Men
In this episode I begin (after much tangenting) discussion about the book The Internet Is Not The Answer by Andrew Keen.
Andrew Keen has written other books which I have read and recommend.
- Digital Vertigo
- Cult of the Amateur
“A society full of stupid men is a stable one.”
We start off (after the tangenting) with a story called The City Of Silence by Ma Boyong from the book Invisible Planets, an anthology of contemporary Chinese SF in translation.
This story is about the future of the interwebz. A future which I don’t think is out of the question.
Instead of making and enforcing lists of words people are allowed to use on the internet the State makes and enforces a list of words people are allowed to use on the internet.
All words not on the list are automatically censored by the software.
It’s a SJW wet dream.
It’s your future.
Then we finally get to the book.
In The Internet Is Not The Answer Andrew informs us that all the problems caused by the interwebz are caused not simply by heterosexual white men (you knew that already) but by a specific group of heterosexual white men.
Libertarians.
Andrew of course does not define the core requirements to be classified as a libertarian. Only that libertarians are the problem.
And – you guessed it – we need more laws.
