Another war that can’t be won.
The hack is the latest to show the futility of digital rights management schemes, which more often than not inconvenience paying customers more than they prevent unauthorized copying.
I have said it over and over again. Old people, the dinosaur days are over. Once something is in digital form you have lost control of it. You had better start coming up with new ideas about copyright. This war can no more be won than the War on DrugsTM.
We need to come up with new ways to make sure those who create get compensation and credit. Hunting down everyone who copies a file is not going to work. Trying to make information harder to access, store, backup, share and distribute is not going to work. Hackers will always be no more a 2 months (if that) behind any encryption tactics the suits come up with.
The hackers, by the very nature of who they are, are always going to be more creative that the computer people employed by the corporations. The suits have no chance of winning this.
